Background
I
have been blessed with the opportunity of working in many countries consulting
at some fabulous clients. I list Norway, Holland, Belgium, France, Germany,
England, Scotland, Ireland, USA, United Arab Emirates, and Japan amongst the countries in which I have worked.
The
start
After
graduating from
Dundee University
in 1990, I joined
Arthur Andersen
in Edinburgh, Scotland to do my time and earn my
Chartered Accountancy
qualification. I passed all the exams at the first attempt, and qualified in
1993.
I have a couple of excellent opportunities during this period that focused me on
my career ahead. The first was an opportunity to lead the Scottish offices
technology growth (thanks to my sponsor partner, Brian McGhee - Thanks
Brian!!). Second, because of this developed skillset, I was asked to
participate in a worldwide rollout of an integrated software package to a US Oil
Services Corporation - of course the answer was yes. I realized very shortly
after that this was for me, and management consultancy became my passion.
The middle
What ensued was a period of awesome personal and professional growth with many
countries, many different projects and a blended skillset thanks to a tremendous
support structure within Andersen. The Business Consulting division grew leaps
and bounds throughout this period, and I was lucky to develop great experience
in Change Management, Project Management, Software Selection and Implementation,
Process Engineering and Best Practices. But all good things come to an end
..... and I decided to leave Andersen in August 1998 after getting an offer "too
good to say no" as an ex-pat all over the world. Thus began my life with Global
Business Solutions (GBS) what was to become SBI and Company.
At that point in time, I was managing the overseas consultancy business and being
very successful in getting troubled, complex projects out of trouble and
simplified. After a courting period of over a year, SBI and Company purchased GBS and asked me to become one of their Vice Presidents.
Life went on the after number of very successful international projects, I was
asked to come to the USA to head up parts of their practice, and start a life
there. I accepted after much deliberation and initially moved to Houston, and
am now settled in North Dallas. SBI divested their razorfish division to
aQuantive in 2004 and I moved across with the acquisition to take up a regional
role. As aQuantive moved more towards online advertising and media, I
yearned to get back to Enterprise consulting. I got that opportunity in
September 2005, taking a position as COO and EVP of FusionBridge, helping
customers "mind the gap" as they develop their IT Strategy and migrate their
enterprise solutions.
We have built a $5m run rate company from
zero in less then 10 months.

Mark Kenneth has 15 years of management consulting experience
delivering projects in national and multi national companies across the
world. He has led European and North
American-wide implementation of major change initiatives,
re-engineering, software selection, software implementation, shared
services. He enjoys leading the
integration of best practice processes, strategy, people skills and
technology. On top of his delivery expertise, he is also known for his
abilities in consulting practice management and turnaround, having been
recognized by customers and peers for his organizational abilities and
drive. Currently leading the operations and delivery of a consulting firm, he previously held a senior
position within a Big 5 in their European Business Consulting
practice. He holds a Bachelors degree majoring in Finance, Business and
Computer Studies and is also a qualified CPA (Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland). The
following are example success stories from his career so far!
- Renegotiated a major implementation that
had gone wrong. Within 3 weeks I had salvaged the project,
renegotiated the license fees between the software vendor and
customer, and tied in a third party implementation agreement that I
was responsible for delivering. Under my management the project went
live in accordance with the original timeline and at the same budget
for the customer. Results: Recovered an important account for
the software vendor ending a >$100m lawsuit, and turned the project
into a referenceable account.
- Started and built a new consulting firm from
zero to a run rate of over $4.5m in under a year. Developed
processes, methodologies, tactics and collateral around the
marketing, sales, proposals, HR, operations, finance and delivery
disciplines to ensure profitability of over 30% EBITDA.
- Salvaged a project in distress in the Far
East. The project was a complex web if multicultural challenges,
business process re-engineering and system implementation within a
multi-consulting firm consortium. Set out daily status and task
meetings and established regular co-ordination meetings with other
parties. Went from 8 weeks behind to 1 week ahead of schedule within
2 months. Results: Launched new financial system with rest of
overall project, reducing close process by 7 days and providing a
common financial view for all management reducing paper distribution
by over 75%. Overall project resulted in savings of over $20m 18
months after launch.
- Reduced the financial close process in
three country HQ operations for a US major through the
implementation of a new financial and inventory systems package.
Supported all process redesign, training, configuration and testing,
and also supported two additional month end closes. Results:
Reduced month close cycle by over 7 days, and improved availability
of local reporting from one month after close to one hour after
close.
- Managed consulting assignment for a major
US managed services provider as they built out their new managed
service offerings. Results: Teams successfully onboarded
multiple new customers with improved methodologies and processes.
- Realigned and retargeted the IT operations
for a national magazine and free newspaper group in the UK. As
acting IT Director I broke down divisional barriers and
consolidation IT processes, reporting and responsibilities.
Results: 20% headcount reduction with an increase in service
levels to the operations via reduced service time, consolidated
support desk and a new network infrastructure.
- Evaluated and designed a European
financial shared service for a global energy major. Co-ordinated
representatives from 8 countries driving new financial processes,
chart of accounts design, system configuration and reporting.
Results: Planned savings of 10-15 people per country due to
shared service center, plus comparability between countries due to
streamlined and standard policies and procedures.
- Turned around a business. Asked to take
regional responsibility for 3 offices which were losing significant
amounts of money and had little or no sales pipeline. Developed a
plan and evaluated the incumbent management team. Worked with
incumbent team to execute the short term plan and recommended a
number of employee changes. Results: Completed the review and
actions resulted in one office returning to profit with a complete
change of senior management, another with a pipeline 15 times
greater than before, and one office closing due to acquisition.
- Investigated profit variances in a group
of Dairy companies. Built computer model for tracking and analysis
of product lines and volume variances. Follow up audit work
identified fraudulent activities. Results : Group of managers
involved were pressed with criminal charges – the computer model was
adopted into business use by the dairies.
- Conducted a best practices review and
analysis for the Order to Cash Cycle of a global pharma company.
Reviewed existing practices and researched best practices intra and
across industries. Results: Identified over 20 action areas
that had significant opportunities both in terms of customer
satisfaction, revenue increase and cost reduction. One observation
had the ability to save up to $2m per day in interest costs.
- Developed a new methodology to allow a
fully integrated approach for assessing, winning and then onboarding
new customers into a managed services environment. Researched and
evaluated data requirements throughout entire process, developed
questionnaires and forms plus created a blueprint for ongoing
development. Results: A new service line to be sold by the
customer creating a profit center for a previous cost center.
Projected cost savings benefits for downstream onboarding activities
projected at up to 10 man weeks per project with significantly
increased customer satisfaction and reduced onboarding time
- Designed and created a procedure to
download depot information for a 700+ site car exhaust and brake
chain to enable comparability and ease of visibility for audit
purposes. Results: A 250 hour decrease in ongoing substantive
and compliance audit hourly charges, plus a new billing opportunity
for my audit firm.
- Authored a white paper on an approach to
Organizational Change Management in ERP implementations which was
adopted as the core methodology for CM within my firm. Results
: Although not quantified across all jobs across the company,
when applied on the jobs I was responsible for, we were able to
deploy rollouts of software to hundreds of locations with
considerably less end-user reaction than comparable projects.
- Researched best practices and developed
content within the Finance Function as part of a global initiative
for a Big 5 accounting and consulting firm. Results: The
service line when launched resulted in a multi million $ revenue
stream for the firm.
- Conducted a hospital wide selection of an
ERP package facilitating requirements and agreement between over 50
participants over a four month period. Results: Selection and
demonstration process was completed on time and under budget, the
first time any project has obtained this result in hospital history.
- Outsourced the accounting and IT
departments for a UK based Exploration and Production company
including providing all internal audit and risk management services.
Results: A new service line for my company, a significant new
customer and base of operations plus a 25% decrease in costs for the
end-customer.
