About Mark Born and bred in Dundee, Scotland, Mark started learning the accordion at 6 years old.  Classically trained, Mark passed all of the British College of Accordionist exams in playing and theory.  He played in the Dundee Accordion Band alongside accordion greats such as James Crabb and Gordon McPherson - both world-class classical accordionists and composers.  He also played, conducted and arranged for the Dundee Strathspey and Reel Society.

Started playing traditional Scottish music, developing an ear for his own style of driving, foot tapping, white hot, heartfelt playing - leading his own dance band at weddings and parties throughout Scotland, Europe, Middle East and beyond.

About his music Recorded with many bands:  Beggars Mantle, Bruce Davies, Dundee Strathspey & Reel Society, Gordon Forbes, Jiggernaut, Smithfield Faire and others.

Toured with (the late great) TV comedian George Duffus for over a decade throughout Scotland and beyond; sharing stages with Andy Cameron, Mary Cameron, Andy Gray, Beggars Mantle, The Alexander Brothers, Silly Wizard, Titch Frier, The Jacobites  and other household names.

Performed with "Breath of Scotland Show" on stage for many years throughout Scotland and Canada.

Lives now in Plano, TX and has performed with On the Dole, Jiggernaut and performances with leading Celtic bands Smithfield Fair; Ed Miller; Alex Beaton; Trinity River Whalers and others.

Latest project with Wolf Loescher

Started working on gigs and recording with Wolf - founder of Jiggernaut.  We plan to play some of the festivals next year - here are some demo tracks of something we are working on:

Cleveland Park Set

A Miner's Life

Loch Tay Boat Song

Where can I hear more? Mark can be found performing frequently with the Trinity Hall Session players at Trinity Hall, Mockingbird Station, Dallas.

Listen to some samples of his playing style  Reels  Jigs Strathspey

Instruments and more

Mark plays a Borsini Superstar - 5 sets of reeds on both sides, weighing in at a scale topping 38lb - jump around stage with that!

Mark also has been fortunate to demonstrate Petosa accordions including the Custom Antique in many of these shots.

His latest accordion is a Roland FR-3s - completely digital with no reeds.  This is an amazing instrument, and one that will appear more and more on stage with him.
